About Us  

Steve and his wife Kathy Setka founded Nationwide Real Estate Consultants in 2006 after long and diverse careers in California residential real estate. The initial focus was to provide consulting services to their past and present real estate clients who wanted to invest in real estate in markets with the most potential across the United States.

Steve Setka was involved in the real estate and financing industry in California since 1980. He started his real estate career after graduating in 1979 with honors from Long Beach State University at Long Beach with a degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Real Estate and Finance. His first position was with Transamerica Mortgage Company as a real estate Loan Officer from 1980 to 1985. He accepted a position as a Branch Manager with Western Bank Mortgage Company in 1985; the company was sold to Victoria Mortgage Company in the early 1990’s; Steve continued with the new firm as a Branch Manager until 1994. He was promoted to the position of Regional Vice President in 1994. In 1995, Steve and Kathy decided to fulfill Steve’s long-time dream of opening a real estate company devoted exclusively to home buyers; they started Buyer Team Realty. A year later, they started an affiliated mortgage division, Team Home Loans. In 2006 after serving real estate clients for 11 years, it was time for Steve and Kathy to pursue their new dream, a company devoted to help real estate investors find lucrative markets and investments; Nationwide Real Estate Consultants was born.

Steve has been a licensed California real estate broker since 1991; he recently was licensed as a broker in the State of Colorado.

Steve has a long history of owning and operating small income properties. He was part owner and operator of four, five, and two unit properties for his family during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. He owned a five unit property in Long Beach during the mid 1980’s. Recently, he and Kathy have acquired two rental homes in Austin, Texas; a three unit property in Raleigh, North Carolina; 19 condos in Dallas, Texas; a sixty unit apartment building in Fort Worth, Texas; 17 individual condos in the Denver/Aurora Metropolitan Area; and three single family homes in Denver.

Kathy has been a licensed real estate appraiser in California for over twenty five years. During that time she owned two successful appraisal companies, Kathy C. Pinto Residential Real Estate Appraisal Company, co-owned Swain Appraisal Company and managed Pacific Southbay Appraisal Company. During her career, she trained dozens of appraisal interns, managed clerical personnel, and expanded her client base. As one of a small group of female appraisers in California in the early 1980’s, she was a pioneer and innovator in the evolution of appraisal practices. Kathy is currently a licensed California Appraiser and primarily conducts reviews of existing appraisals for banks and other institutions. Kathy's also licensed as a California real estate broker.
